As you can see from the photos, Avalon colleagues Allison Porter, Margot O’Leary, and Sarah Harris spent a fun-filled day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium (MBA) — meeting our new clients and exploring MBA’s spectacular venue.
Built in and on the water, MBA takes you right back to high school English lit class and John Steinbeck’s classic novel Cannery Row, which is set in this exact spot. In fact, the Aquarium is located right on Cannery Row in a remodeled warehouse and boiler house, supplemented with new construction. MBA fits organically within the community where fish processing plants and tourist attractions happily share the waterfront.
The MBA building is open and airy, with beautiful views of Monterey Bay and incredible exhibits of marine life, including a kelp forest (home to a school of 5,000 anchovies!), graceful jellyfish, and playful otters.
One of the striking things about visiting MBA is its ongoing educational approach for visitors. As you stroll through the exhibits, you learn about making responsible seafood choices that support sustainable fishing practices; how you can help clean up our oceans; and how global warming is changing the bodies of water on earth.
If you ever find yourself in Northern California, be sure to make time for a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium!
And last but not least, if you’re looking to waste some time at work check out this adorable baby otter video that was recently circulating.
