Avalon Consulting Named a Top Workplace by the Washington Post

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, DC – (June 17, 2022) – Avalon Consulting Group has been named one of the Washington Post’s 2022 Top Workplaces in the Washington, D.C. area. Being named to this annual list is determined solely on survey feedback from employees.

“The Post’s Top Workplaces list is now in its ninth year and continues to highlight the companies in the Washington-area that employees deem to be leaders in company satisfaction and engagement,” said Washington Post Top Workplaces editor Dion Haynes. “Each year, the leaders at these companies are commended for their leadership and collegiality, qualities which have increased in importance to employees with the last few years of heightened transition and change.”

“This recognition is so meaningful because it comes from our staff,” said Avalon president and owner Allison Porter. “I’m humbled that our staff feel so supported and that they embraced our efforts to support employee wellness during a couple of very difficult years.”

In addition to existing generous and flexible leave policies, Avalon also provides professional development and coaching sessions as well as an executive coach on-call for confidential one-on-ones and check-ins. The company instituted monthly “pulse” surveys for staff to give anonymous feedback about Avalon’s company operations. Daily email updates from leadership keep staff up to date on the state of the company, industry news, and wellness resources. Avalon also formalized a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force to ensure its practices made employees feel safe and included and to provide a space for debate and open discussion. In late 2020, Avalon’s Virtual Gatherings Committee was created to host regular virtual events to keep staff engaged, learning, and having fun with their colleagues.

And, when Avalon made the decision to shift to a remote-first work environment, its staff policies also evolved. From annual office supply stipends to technology updates to a continued commitment to gather safely when they can. “We’d been teleworking as a company for 20 years when the pandemic hit, so we were able to transition seamlessly,” said Porter. “And prioritizing remote work has helped our teams operate more efficiently and effectively.” Additionally, Avalon created a role for a Director of Remote Work who focuses on providing the resources to staff to successfully work where they are.

Since 1997, Avalon has helped its clients raise millions of dollars to achieve their visions for a better world—while building relationships with people who share their passion and support their vital causes. Says Porter, “As we celebrate our 25th anniversary year, I’m so proud of the talented staff collaborative culture we have built at Avalon. Join us!
