Friends of the National Zoo

Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) is the dedicated nonprofit partner of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo (National Zoo). More than 30,000 families are currently members of FONZ. These dedicated zoogoers are our greatest supporters and the best advocates for our mission to save species. FONZ’s reach extends to tens of thousands more through various education programs, public and private events, and volunteers who support the Zoo and interact with visitors on a daily basis.

The National Zoo is a part of the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum and research complex comprised of 18 museums and galleries, in addition to the National Zoo.

As a 163-acre zoological park set amid Rock Creek Park in the heart of Washington, D.C., the National Zoo is open to the public 364 days a year and home to 1,800 individual animals of 300 different species.

The National Zoo is one of Washington’s and the Smithsonian’s most popular tourist destinations, welcoming up to two million visitors—from the local community, the country, and the rest of the world—every year, free of charge.

Maryland Food Bank

Established as the first food bank on the East Coast in 1979 to provide hunger relief services to Baltimore City, the Maryland Food Bank (MFB) has grown in 36 years to become a statewide organization that distributes more than 100,000 meals a day through a network of 1,250 distribution partners, including soup kitchens, pantries, shelters, schools, and other community-based organizations across the state.

National Museum of African American History and Culture

The American Air Museum in Britain (AAMB)

The American Air Museum is the home to the best collection of American military aircraft on public display outside of North America. The transformed American Air Museum reopened to the public in March 2016, and tells the story of two nations united through war, loss, love and duty, from the First World War to the present day.
